Warm-up and wind-down sessions help to achieve better focus and performance throughout the participatory activities. A warm-up session is a short introductory time during which children are introduced to one another and the facilitator through a fun activity. It is also an opportunity to introduce children to the idea of participatory design, cooperation, and arriving at shared thoughts. The warm-up allows a smooth transition into the core activity by focussing everyone on the present, and by relieving any stress or tension which displaced children may feel. A wind-down session is the concluding time during which the children together with the facilitator end the activity and reflect on what the session meant to them.
