High Commissioner’s Dialogue on Protection Challenges: Protection and Solutions in Urban Settings

This report elaborates on the UNHCR’s dialogue on protection challenges which: 1) recognizes the important role of cities, local authorities and communities, including individual citizens and other local actors and partners, in protecting and assisting refugees, returnees and internally displaced and stateless populations, 2) takes stock of existing inter- and intra-city support measures and commitments, as well as best practices, guidance and tools that have been developed and that could be made available to all relevant stakeholders operating in urban environments, and 3) explores the role of cities in contributing to achieving the objectives of the global compact on refugees.
